In the spring of 2022, as the first part of our six-week wine tour through Europe, we visit the Champagne region. It’s beautiful, though there are few tasting opportunities on Mondays and Tuesdays. Nonetheless, it’s wonderful to see how they’re tying up the Moet & Chandon vines near Bouzy—a name that sparks our imagination because it frequently comes up in the Vinology course.
It’s also a treat to capture an image of Dom Perignon, who played such a pivotal role in the creation of Champagne!
We have our Champagne tasting at Collard-Picard, on the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, where we, of course, also visit the Moet & Chandon boutique.
Since we drove around the Bouzy area, we manage to get a bottle of Bouzy rouge with dinner at the hotel. Given that only 2% of the region’s production is red wine, we’re thrilled to try this gem. It’s a wonderful addition to the meal.
